Chael Sonnen recently shared his views of UFC Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic being upset over the amount he was paid for his last title defense against Alistair Overeem in September at UFC 203.
Miocic was upset over the fact, despite being the champion and winning by knockout, his opponent was paid more money than he was for the fight.
“He’s no different than anybody else on any job site. If you’re out working, and you’re producing more than another guy, and you find out that guy is making more than you, it’s going to hurt your feelings. It’s going to bother you. However, Stipe does need to remember there was a time when he would have forgone the money for the opportunity.”
Sonnen continued to say the reason Miocic got paid less was because he agreed to a cheaper deal when he just wanted to become a champion, but now that he is the champion he is thinking things differently. Sonnen suggests that it could be Miocic’s fault that he got paid less than he wanted for his last fight. The reason Overeem got paid more is because he negotiated a better deal before fighting for the title.
