“Platinum” Mike Perry may be one of the more polarizing figures on the Ultimate Fighting Championship roster, but the welterweight has the hands, and elbows apparently, to back up what he says.
Perry stepped into the octagon at “UFC Fight Night 108” prepared to prove to the world that he has what it takes to hang in there with some of the best and did just that when he sent Jake Ellenberger crashing to the mat in their main card fight at Bridgestone Arena.
Once Perry got within striking distance of Ellenberger in the second round, he threw a short elbow that sent Jake in a free-fall to the canvas. The referee waved off the fight immediately making it Perry’s first walk-off short elbow KO in the octagon.
The knockout is being hailed as one of the best of the year, and one of the best hype men in mixed martial arts has taken notice. Chael Sonnen recently broke down the elbow on a recent edition of his podcast, claiming that Perry’s elbow could have killed a horse.
“I thought Ellenberger fought great. I thought Perry did too — I thought it was a great fight.”
