The competition is getting more and more fierce in all of the UFC’s divisions, but in the past few years the females have really stood out in the promotion. Ronda Rousey was the most dominant female champion in UFC history and holds the record for most successful title defenses, but even she was eventually overthrown by the new crop of bantamweights. However, Joanna Jedrzejczyk has been very dominant in all of her performances and has shown real evolution in her mixed martial arts game. So much so that there doesn’t look to be anyone that’s currently posing much of a threat to her.
Joanna now finds herself with a chance to cement herself as the most dominant female UFC fighter of all time and hopes to break the record currently held by Rousey. From there it could be a trip to the flyweight division, as she wants to wear both 115lb and 125lb UFC titles.’
Jedrzejczyk is slated to defend the UFC strawweight title against Rose Namajunas as UFC 217, but already has some lofty goals set for herself.
She spoke to UFC Tonight on Wednesday about her plans moving forward.
“I’m very excited that the UFC made this decision to bring the new division,” Jedrzejczyk said. “I was looking at the 125 division, but it was at that time when I had such big problems with making weight, with making 115. But that time, I didn’t work with Perfecting Athletes. Right now I feel great. I put on weight. I feel strong. I feel healthy. And I make my weight easy. I can fight at 115, but maybe next year I will make this decision to move up and I will, of course, defend both titles.”
Joanna and Ronda have always been friends, but this is still competition and she wants to be the best female fighter to ever step foot in the octagon.
“I love Ronda Rousey,” Jedrzejczyk said. “We have a very good relationship, and like I said so many times, she has done so much for this sport, for the UFC and not only for the female fighters.
“Of course, it’s all about winning the fight, defending the title and about the records. It’s going to be nice that I will tie Ronda Rousey’s record after I win against Rose Namajunas. But I’m looking forward, because I want to defend my strawweight belt in 2018. And then I will see. Maybe I will move up.”
