When it comes to the rivalry between former Team Alpha Male teammates Cody Garbrandt and T.J. Dillashaw, you aren’t going to find much these two agree on, besides their utter dislike for each other.
Well, now there’s something else they agree on, and that’s that they both believe their the fan’s UFC 217 main event.
Taking to today’s UFC 217 pre-fight media call, both men chimed in, stating their the real main event.
First Garbrandt:
“This isn’t a gimme fight. Bisping and GSP fight is a gimme fight, they’re just trying to sell tickets. Our fight sells on all avenues, on all angles, everywhere. Everyone wants to see this fight, it’s a grudge match. Two fighters going out there the former interim champion fighting the champion. That in itself is the main event.
“No disrespect to Rose and Joanna, I think they’re great fighters, but we’re the real main event on Nov. 4.”
And Now T.J.:
“Like he said, me and him are the real main event of this card. 70-percent of the fans want to see our fight more than any of the other ones on this card so it added up to this for a reason. It’s building our names.”
This year’s return trip to Madison Square Garden is proof the UFC can still deliver a stacked mega-card, with all the bells and whistles.
Set to headline next week’s MSG card, Georges “Rush” St-Pierre returns to the Octagon for the first time in over four years. He will face off against the UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping in the UFC 217 main event, on pay-per-view.
Also on the night’s fight card is a much anticipated bantamweight title fight between ex-teammates Cody Garbrandt and T.J. Dillashaw. And a big strawweight title fight between Joanna Jedrzerjczyk and “Thug” Rose Namajunas.
The night’s co-main event is the culmination of when the two fighters coached ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ reality series. While, this bout has been postponed from it’s original date, it is the biggest bantamweight fight in the promotion’s history.
