The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is gearing up for another exciting night of fights. This time, the mixed martial arts promotion is getting ready to visit Detroit, Michigan for the fast approaching fight card of UFC 218. The event will go down Saturday night, Dec. 2, inside the Little Caesars Arena for the Detroit fight fans.
In the night’s main event, UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway will be looking to defend his title as he takes on Jose Aldo in a highly anticipated rematch.
Holloway was initially set to face off against Frankie Edgar for the night’s headliner. However, Edgar was pulled from the event after suffering an injury. On short notice, former champion Jose Aldo stepped up to fill the empty main event spot and to gain another chance to fight for the featherweight title.
Holloway unified his interim title with a stunning TKO victory over “Scarface” at UFC 212. That being said, the champion will have a tough challenge ahead of him come Saturday night.
The night’s co-headliner will be a heavyweight war, as Alistair Overeem will be going head-to-head with Francis Ngannou for division dominance. Overeem is currently on a two fight winning streak, having most recently earned a close decision win over former champion Fabricio Werdum. That being said, Ngannou has yet to be defeated inside the octagon. The fighter is now riding a dazzling nine fight winning streak.
With UFC 218 just a day away, the world’s most famous mixed martial arts promotion hosted the UFC ceremonial weigh-ins today to get fight fans hyped for the exciting upcoming fight card.
Earlier today, fighters stepped on the scales for the official weigh-ins. All fighters made weight. Though Max Holloway looked affected by the weight cut when the champion stepped on the scale, the fighter still made his 145 pound limit.
