According to reports, the UFC is targeting a female strawweight title fight between Rose Namajunas and Tecia Torres for the upcoming UFC 221 event. Namajunas defeated former champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 217 to become the new strawweight champion in November.
UFC 221: Whittaker vs. Rockhold is set to go down on February 11, from the Perth Arena in Perth, Western Australia. The night’s main event is set for the UFC middleweight world title, in a fight between former champion Luke Rockhold and champion Robert Whittaker. The night’s main card will air live on pay-per-view.
While no official announcement from the UFC has been made on the pending female strawweight title fight, the bout has been expected.
Both Tecia Torres and “Thug” Rose Namajunas are no strangers to each other, having fought twice in the past and going 1-1 in their two fight series.
In their first fight it was Tecia Torres who beat Rose while the two were both signed under the Invicta FC banner. Later, Rose would get revenge under the UFC lights in a rematch in April of last year.
The loss to Rose Namajunas is Torres’ only defeat as a professional.
The Polish media are reporting this fight, fresh off a call with Jedrzejczyk, who said she doesn’t want to return until mid-year 2018.
Here’s their announcement:
Rose Namajunas vs. Tecia Torres III in the works for #UFC221 in Perth.
