Report: Bellator Eyeing New Opponent For Fedor Emelianenko

Fedor Emelianenko was just hours away from making his Bellator debut last month at “Bellator 172” when it was revealed that Matt Mitrione would be forced out of the fight due to an illness. Too late to find a suitable replacement opponent, Emelianenko chose to simply wait for Mitrione to recover, delaying the fight to a future event.

Now, Alexey Safonov is reporting that Mitrione may be sidelined for longer than expected to leave Emelianenko looking for a new opponent. Bellator boss Scott Coker revealed last week that his dream fight for Bellator would be a matchup between “The Last Emperor” and “King Mo” Muhammad Lawal and it seems like that fight may become a reality:

Lawal has not fought since his knockout loss to Mirko Cro Cop in December 2016. Emelianenko is currently riding a five-fight win streak featuring wins over the likes of Fábio Maldonado, Pedro Rizzo, and Jeff Monson.
