Ultimate Fighting Championship and longtime employee Mike Goldberg parted ways after the conclusion of “UFC 207” in 2016, and for the first time ever the former commentator has opened up about his release.
Goldberg sat down with MMA Hour and admitted that there was no specific reasoning behind his release. He was laid off just like the rest of the employees who WME-IMG decided were not needed with the company anymore:
“No [they did not give me a reason why I would not be with the company past 2016]. Not at all. I mean, he's the real situation. I'm no different than the guy in merchandise, or the fifteen Vice Presidents who got let go or the entire team in Canada that was shut down. I'm not the only guy that was let go from the new ownership. Well over one-hundred people, Ariel … I'm not gonna sit here and weep because new ownership came in and got cut. I was one of a lot of people who got cut.”
