Ultimate Fighting Championship’s lightweight division may be one of the most stacked weight classes in all of mixed martial arts. Before Conor McGregor made his way into the division, the top five fighters within the division’s rankings could have walked out with the title slung over their shoulder any given night. Now that McGregor sits atop the ladder, however, who knows when the next king will get a chance to dethrone Conor.
Even though he has had only two fights at lightweight inside the UFC, McGregor is being touted as the best the division has to offer by his coach John Kavanagh. After Conor, however, Coach Kavanagh recently stated he believes Nate Diaz is the second best in the weight class. He told MMA Fighting:
“And I think the second-best 155er is Nate Diaz. I think Nate would beat either Tony or Khabib. I think he really turned the corner with the Michael Johnson fight. I think we saw a new version of him. And then he looked fantastic in both Conor fights.”
UFC lightweight Erik Koch seems to be very offended by that statement, firing back at Kavanagh by saying:
“Shut the (expletive) up lol I understand being there for your boy, but come on son.”
