On Tuesday, Justin Buchholz, the head coach of Team Alpha Male, said, on the Stud Radio show, UFC Bantamweight Champion Cody Garbrandt will finish former champion Dominick Cruz the next time the two fight.
“I didn’t know Cruz had that strong of a chin,” StudBoy said. “He got (expletive) hit hard. He has a good chin and was able to recover quickly, which was interesting. I think the next fight, I think they should fight again, I think the knockout is imminent. He softened his chin up.”
“I completely agree, but for other reasons I see him (Garbrandt) finishing him for sure,” Buchholz responded. “Not because he softened his chin up, but I’m sure he’s going to have lasting damage from that fight. But yeah, I see him finishing him in a rematch for sure.”
On Dec. 30, at UFC 207, Garbrandt won a unanimous decision against Cruz to win the UFC Bantamweight Championship. Prior to the loss, Cruz was unbeaten since 2007 and was on a 13-fight win streak.
Garbrandt publically requested an immediate rematch against Cruz but the fight never came to fruition. Instead, Garbrandt will make his first title defense against former UFC Bantamweight Champion TJ Dillashaw.
Before Garbrandt fights Dillashaw, both fighters will coach opposite of each other on the next season of The Ultimate Fighter.
