If not for Gina Carano, the sport of WMMA might still be back in the dark ages. However, because of her early role in the sport, women had an open door with many promoters across the globe, including EliteXC and Strikeforce, who used Carano to propel the likes of Cris Cyborg and other females into relevancy.
Now the women compete in the UFC, and had this happened years ago it may have very well been Carano capturing UFC featherweight gold for the first time.
Instead, Germaine de Randamie will go down in history as the promotion’s first 145 pound female champion, and despite the controversy surrounding how she got there, that’s an accolade no one can take away.
de Randamie was able to outpoint Holly Holm to earn the right as champion in the UFC 208 main event, but to original face of the division, Gina Carano wasn’t impressed.
As most fighters do, Gina took to twitter with her UFC 208 reaction.
