With Stephan Thompson set to fight the welterweight champion at UFC 209, Demian Maia has taken matters into his own hands. The fighter will be facing Jorge Masvidal at a future UFC Fight Night, claims Combate.
First reported by the Brazillian source Combate, Maia will allegedly be facing No. 6 ranked Jorge Masvidal at UFC Fight Night in Nashville on April 22. Combate also claims that the bout will be the main event.
UFC has already claimed a main event for the Fight Night, with Cub Swanson and Artem Lobov expected to fight in the bout.
Maia is, however, currently ranked No. 3 in the division and is steaming ahead with a six fight win streak. A bout between Masvidal and Maia would certainly be worthy of a main event.
