UFC Lightweight (and self-proclaimed featherweight) Champion Conor McGregor may be stepping into the squared circle for his boxing debut and standing across the ring from him would be none other than Floyd Mayweather Jr. While this bout would surely break every combat sports record set by Manny Pacquiao and “Money” Mayweather, a lot of fighters are questioning McGregor’s decision to transition to a completely different sport.
Tony Ferguson is gearing up for his co-main event bout at “UFC 209” where he and Khabib Nurmagomedov will decide the fate of the vacant interim lightweight championship, and he will likely remain in the octagon judging from his words on McGregor. Ferguson critiqued McGregor for jumping into the deep end on a recent edition of “Fox Sports Live with Jay and Dan” and stated:
“It’s a marathon, not a sprint. And the difference is a lot of people that float up to the top really quick, they just keep floating and they go away. That’s what I see Conor doing, he’s on his way out. He’s using Mayweather as an excuse to come out of the woodwork but this is a real man’s sport and if he wants to go into boxing and get his ass kicked over there then that’s up to him.”
