UFC Results: Herrig Ends Grasso’s Hype, Hands Fighter Her First Loss In Co-Main Event

Alexa Grasso got to step into the octagon with a proven warrior in Felice Herrig in the co-main event of “UFC Fight Night 104” on Saturday evening. Herrig walked right out of the corner, looking to put pressure on Grasso as soon as the fight started. Grasso got a thunderous welcome from the crowd in Houston, Texas as they were chanting “Mexico” at the top of their lungs within the first minute.

Grasso landed a jumping headkick on Herrig, but Grasso would land on her bum while Herrig tried to follow her there. A scramble led to a leg-lock attempt from Grasso but both women eventually made their way back to their feet.

Herrig’s jab eventually found its way through the guard of Grasso, and the round would conclude with both ladies landing shots flush, in the middle of the octagon.

Herrig kicked off the second round with another stiff jab, and she followed it up with another brilliant round where her patience shone through. She cut off Grasso’s attack often, blocking Grasso’s kicks and punches with ease before lunging in with her own. Not to say Grasso didn’t land her fair share of leg kicks and jabs from a distance, but it was not superior to Herrig’s cage control and aggression.

Herrig scored a major takedown in the opening moments of the final round where she would ultimately gain full mount, but Grasso fought her way back to her feet with ease! Grasso tried hard to close the distance and make the fight her own to sway the judges in her favor, but Herrig continued to cut off her attack. Grasso landed a nice shot to the body which caused Herrig to step back a bit; Grasso’s confidence grew a great deal in the final minute and she went toe-to-toe with Herrig in an exchange that brought the fans to their feet!
