With a title like “The Phenom” and a hearty 38 fight professional record, it’s hard to imagine former UFC light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort as ever backing down. Starring into the face of a two fight losing streak over the past year, not much as changed for “The Phenom.”
In a recent interview with MMA Fighting, Belfort got a little perturbed. Apparently the recent losing streak is unworthy of note to the former champion, as he responded to MMA Fighting asking how he plans to correct the streak with:
“Who said it’s complicated? I fought the two best fighters in the division, so it’s actually not complicated, it’s an opportunity for me to rewrite my story. It was a misstep. That’s the problem in fight (business). People have the loss as the worst moment, but it’s the best moment, the time where I can rewrite my story again.” Belfort said.
Driving home his perspective on the outer opinion of his current position in the sport, Belfort said:
“Unfortunately, that’s how men see things. When someone loses, they want to bury them. They create the idol, and then wants to destroy the idol. It’s a cultural thing. People need to see difficulties as an opportunity. That’s the way I see it.”
Vitor Belfort is set to face Kelvin Gastelum in the main event of UFC Fight Night 106 in March.
