Former UFC bantamweight title challenger Michael McDonald reportedly requested he be released by the UFC.
Usually fighters can ask all they want, but rarely does it work.
In the case of McDonald though, it would appear as if the UFC granted his request.
ESPN has it:
Bantamweight Michael McDonald (@MaydayMcDonald) has informed me he asked for and secured his release from the UFC. More on this soon.

McDonald returned from a three year layoff from competition in 2016. He went 1-1 last year, most recently getting knocked out in round 1 by John Lineker.
McDonald was considered one of the best 135 pound fighters in the world, having once fought for UFC gold against Renan Barao in the ‘UFC on Fuel TV: Barao vs. McDonald’ featured bout.
