UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor has not stepped foot inside the octagon since his dominant performance at “UFC 205” where he sent Eddie Alvarez to the mat multiple times before finishing him off in the second round.
Now, instead of defending his newly won crown, McGregor may be stepping into the squared circle to throw down with one of the best boxers of all time in Floyd Mayweather Jr. The two have been teasing the fight for over a year and while it seemed like more of a pipe-dream last year, the cross-sport super fight is closer to becoming a reality than ever before.
One of the biggest obstacles in the process was Ultimate Fighting Championship themselves, as McGregor is locked in a contract with them. After months of telling the media he would not let the fight happen, White eventually decided to let McGregor make the transition and negotiations are expected to kick off soon.
McGregor has been traveling the world as of late, most recently partying it up in Liverpool after a recent appearance. McGregor flew back to Ireland where he considers his home. Despite coming from Ireland, McGregor is rarely seen speaking to the media in Gaelic. Gaelic is no longer the dominant language in Ireland, but a hefty majority of the civilians know how to speak it:
Have you ever heard McGregor like that before?
