Jenel Lausa and Magomed Bibulatov kicked off the first Ultimate Fighting Championship event in weeks with their flyweight contest which aired exclusively on UFC Fight Pass. UFC’s first trip to Buffalo, New York saw a positive turnout as the KeyBank Arena saw a decent sized crowd for the first fight of the night.

Despite there being a large audience for curtain-jerkers Lausa and Bibulatov, they did not let the pressure get to them as they seemed loose and fluid as soon as the fight started. Bibulatov teased some spinning attacks earlier on, forcing Lausa to think twice about how close he got so soon into the fight.
Even though they were loose and fluid, the feeling out process was a respectful one which led to some inactivity in the opening minutes of the bout. Four minutes into the fight, Bibulatov had found his distance and started out-landing Lausa on the feet.
Lausa charged forward aggressively in the second round, showing Bibulatov that he wasn’t going to back down despite his low percentage of strikes landed.
Bibulatov suffered a major blow when he kicked Lausa twice in the groin throughout the fight, getting one point deducted from his second round score. In order to take control of the round, Bibulatov secured a takedown and top position for the remainder of the round to make up for lost ground.
Bibulatov secured a slam takedown at the start of the third and transitioned directly into side control. By the time three minutes passed, Bibulatov had found himself in full mount. Lausa eventually got out of harm’s way by making it back to guard, but it was too little, too late as the horn had sounded while he was on his back.
Magomed Bibulatov def. Jenel Lausa by way of Unanimous Decision (29-26, 29-26, 29-26)
