Jake Shields scored a big win for the Skrap Pack over the Straight Blast Gym in the ongoing rivalry that’s been highlighted by Conor McGregor’s wars with Nate Diaz. Shields stepped into the cage at Submssion Underground 4 and defeated BJJ world champion Dillon Danis earlier tonight in Portland, Oregon adding another chapter to the storied SBG/Skrap Pack feud.
Shields was able to score some takedowns during the regulation time, while also fending off Dillon’s best submissions including a very tight guillotine choke and heel hook. However, it was in the overtime rounds where Shields was able to outlast Danis, as he was quicker with escaping the back control and spiderweb/armbar positions.
Shields will now set his focus on returning to MMA action in the Worlds Series of Fighting, but says he’s ready to return to some grappling action anytime they’re ready to have him back.
Shields though, wasn’t the only MMA royalty competing tonight.
Urijah Faber was also on the mats in his professional grappling debut, and though thoroughly entertaining, Paulo Miyao defeated the MMA legend in overtime.
Spoiler alert! One of the biggest no-gi matches of the year just went down. https://t.co/VAsAWaTt3I || @jakeshieldsajj @SUG_Grappling #SUG4
