On Wednesday, the UFC added a third title fight to UFC 214 taking place July 29 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley will defend his championship against Demian Maia.
It is rare for the UFC to book three title fights on one night. However, according to Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting, the UFC is rushing to have Woodley fight Maia in order for the winner to fight former UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre later this year.
“UFC rushed to do Woodley-Maia in July so they could have winner fight GSP at MSG. 214 is amazing, but I feel for Maia: deserved more time,” Helwani said on Twitter.
St-Pierre’s return to the UFC is now rumored to take place in November at Madison Square Garden.
St-Pierre was originally scheduled to make his UFC return against UFC Middleweight Champion Michael Bisping, but that fight was canceled due to St-Pierre not being able to fight until the end of the year.
