On Saturday, the UFC hosted its most stacked card of the year with UFC 214 in Anaheim, California.
The event featured the next chapter in one of the most heated rivalries in MMA history.
In the main event, UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier defended his title against former champion Jon Jones.
This was the second time these two rivals met inside the Octagon. In 2015, Jones defended his title by winning a decision against Cormier.
Jones started the fight with a powerful body kick. Both fighters then started swinging. Cormier knocked out Jones mouth piece with a punch. Jones landed a takedown, but Cormier got right back to his feet. Jones then started to use his reach advantage to land strikes. Cormier responded with a leg kick. Jones had success with his oblique kick. Cormier landed a clean combination in the final minute of the round.
Jones opened the second round with multiple hard shots to the body. Cormier responded by attacking the legs. An accidental headbutt resulted in the action pausing briefly. Both fighters then traded strikes. Whenever Cormier would begin to have success, Jones would run away from danger. Cormier tripped Jones to the ground, but Jones got right back up. In the final seconds of the round, Cormier landed a strong right hand to Jones jaw.
Jones was the aggressor early in the third round. Jones landed combinations of punches and kicks from afar. Cormier eventually got close and landed some offense of his own. Jones landed a head kick that rocked Cormier. Jones then unloaded on Cormier on the ground until the referee stepped in and stopped the fight.
Official Result:
Jon Jones def. Daniel Cormier by TKO (Round 3) to win UFC Light Heavyweight Championship
