One of MMA’s most respected journalists, Ariel Helwani, was not allowed to ask questions at Wednesday’s UFC press conference.
On Wednesday, the UFC held a pre-fight press conference for UFC 214. The event is set to take place Saturday at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
Helwani was in attendance and tried to ask questions, but when Helwani was about to get a microphone, UFC President Dana White wrapped up the press conference.
On Twitter, a fan asked Helwani why he didn’t ask any questions, and he responded by revealing what happened.
“I tried,” Helwani said. “Asked for the mic early on, by the time I was on deck they wrapped.”
Helwani does not have a good relationship with the UFC. Last year, Helwani, and MMA Fighting, had their UFC credentials taken away after Helwani ruined the surprise of former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar returning to the promotion.
Earlier this month, the UFC had Helwani pulled from doing coverage on Showtime for the press conferences for the upcoming Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor boxing match.
