It appears UFC lightweight contenders Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson will not be competing at UFC 217 on Nov. 4.
After trading insults on social media and agreeing to fight at Madison Square Garden in New York City, Ferguson says Nurmagomedov’s manager turned down the fight when it was offered by the UFC.
“Your MGR (Ali Abdelaziz) Informed (UFC) U Are Not Well Enough To Fight Me At MSG, Turned Down The Fight On Your Behalf. Don’t Fool Your Fans,” Ferguson said on Twitter.
Ferguson and Nurmagomedov are considered to be the top two contenders in the UFC lightweight division. A fight between them would determine the top contender for UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor when he returns to the UFC. Also, if McGregor doesn’t return, the fight could crown the next 155-pound champion in the promotion.
Ferguson and Nurmagomedov have been scheduled to fight on two separate occasions in the UFC, but both times the fight was canceled due to illness or injury.
