It appears the UFC is unsure about who will headline UFC 216 next month.
On Wednesday, the UFC announced UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson will defend his title against Ray Borg at UFC 216. Johnson was scheduled to fight Borg in the main event of UFC 215. However, Borg was forced to withdraw from the fight due to illness just two days before the event.
UFC 216 will also feature an interim title fight between lightweight contenders Tony Ferguson and Kevin Lee. This fight was originally announced as the main event.
MMA reporter Damon Martin reported on Thursday that the UFC is unsure on who will headline UFC 216.
As of right now, the UFC website has Ferguson vs. Lee in the main event position, while Johnson vs. Borg is in the co-main event. However, with Johnson’s fight being for an actual UFC title, it could be promoted to the main event.
UFC 216 will take place Oct. 7 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
UFC officials tell me "bout order still to be determined" regarding UFC 216 main event — Ferguson vs. Lee or DJ vs. Borg.
