Fight fans have been speculating as to what will be next for UFC megastar Conor McGregor.
Fresh off of a TKO loss in his boxing debut against Floyd Mayweather Jr., Conor McGregor is coming off of a massive payday that has some fans believing the UFC lightweight champion will only return to the octagon for a super-fight. That being said, UFC President Dana White has put his foot down and revealed which fighter McGregor will be facing next inside the octagon.
Many fight fans have been hoping for a trilogy rematch between Conor McGregor and heated rival Nate Diaz. In their first match up, Diaz choked out “Notorious” for a submission victory. However, McGregor came back with a majority decision win in the rematch. Now with the two UFC superstars 1-1 in their rivalry, fight fans are frantically waiting to hear news of a third fight. That being said, Dana White has come forward to reveal that Conor McGregor will be facing off against the newly crowned interim lightweight champion.
UFC 216 took place Sunday night inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. In the night’s main event, Tony Ferguson choked out Kevin Lee for the UFC lightweight interim title. In the UFC 216 post-fight press conference, Dana White addressed the recent rumors of a trilogy fight between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz by revealing that Tony Ferguson will instead by next in line to fight “Notorious.”
Here is what Dana White had to say:
“Nobody’s talked about Diaz. Diaz has never been talked about. That’s Internet bull***t. Tony’s the interim champion. Conor’s the champion. It’s the fight that makes sense. It’s the fight that has to happen, it doesn’t ‘make sense,’ it’s the fight that has to happen.”
