Booked for the UFC Winnipeg main event is an intriguing welterweight scrap between Robbie Lawler and Rafael dos Anjos.
That fight is now also a title-eliminator, according to UFC president Dana White.
Friday, during the UFC 217 pre-fight media stop in Toronto, the UFC president was asked by members of the media about the upcoming Canadian card. One reporter then asked the UFC boss if the main event’s winner will be next for a UFC title shot.
The UFC president didn’t hesitate to say yes, that the winner of Lawler vs. dos Anjos will get the next welterweight title shot against current champion Tyron Woodley.
Robbie Lawler is the former UFC welterweight champion. He lost the strap with a first round knockout loss to current champion Tyron Woodley in Atlanta.
Rafael dos Anjos represents another former UFC champion. However, his reign was a division down in the lightweight division. Since losing his belt to Eddie Alvarez, he has since gone 2-0 as a welterweight and after his last win is now ranked inside the division’s top 5.
Lawler vs. RDA goes down in the UFC on FOX 26 main event, on Dec. 16, at the Bell MTS Place in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
