UFC welterweight fighter “Platinum” Mike Perry is trying to climb the divisional rankings as fast as possible in his quest for a title shot. Perry has been absolutely terrifying in his performances, with Alan Jouban being his only blemish during his five UFC appearances. In fact, every other opponent has been brutally stopped by knockout or TKO.
Perry’s most recent appearance at UFC Fight Night 116 was another first round stoppage win for “Platinum” although it wasn’t his originally scheduled opponent. Thiago Alves was supposed to be his opponent but was forced to pull out when Hurricane Irma devastated Florida.
“Listen, here’s an opportunity for him to make a hundred grand in one night. He beats me, he gets a hundred grand because if I beat him, I get the hundred grand. He gets more than a hundred grand, he gets more than me to show up. So right there, if he was comfortable enough to stay behind and not get that payday just for showing up, he could have taken that money, flown his family even further out of state so they never would have had to sleep overnight in the gym, his dog wouldn’t have died.”
Perry simply wasn’t buying the excuse from Alves and said he was “mentally defeated” before ever getting to the fight.
“I made the adjustments, I came from Florida, a bunch of my family and friends came from Florida, they all showed up. His team from down south, ATT [American Top Team], they all showed up. Hector Lombard was there. We all came from Florida. He was mentally defeated. This young kid was gonna whoop that ass.”
Now less than a month removed from his win over Alex Reyes in Pittsburgh, “Platinum” Mike Perry is ready to fight in Poland if the UFC needs him.
