Former UFC title challenger and top ranked flyweight Henry Cejudo is lucky to be alive today, following a very real and scary brush with death in California.
California is currently on fire, and people are being evacuated by the thousands. It’s a real life tragedy affecting the United States’ western coastal area.
Henry Cejudo was at an Olympic retreat when these fires hit his area. Asleep, the UFC fighter did not hear the alarms. When he woke up his hotel was ablaze, the surrounding area was ablaze and all he could do was jump from his second story room and hope for the best.
The fire claimed Henry’s Olympic medal and ring, and he suffered burns on his foot.
Cejudo’s longtime coach and friend, released an update just moments ago on his official Facebook account.
Here’s what he said:
“I Been getting asked a lot about Henry Cejudo . I was not with Him . I am in brazil. Here’s what I know :
Henry was doing a charity event in Northern California & sleeping at his hotel when apparently his whole hotel caught on fire.
Henry did not hear the alarm while he was sleeping when he finally woke up the whole hotel was ablaze & he had jump from the second-floor . He was the last one to evacuate the hotel and I believe the surrounding areas was ablaze as well and he had to jump a couple of fences to to survive. He had to leave his Olympic gold-medal and Olympic gold & diamond ring behind.
When I spoke with him, he was in a state of shock and he had told me that he burned and hurt his foot . We did not speak of the extent of his injury . We spoke about how insane it was and how lucky he was to be alive.
I will update when I get more info . Thank you”
MMA couldn’t take another tragedy, let’s all count our lucky stars that Henry made it out.
Cejudo is scheduled to face Sergio Pettis at UFC 218. The winner is expected to fight Demetrious Johnson for the UFC flyweight belt. These latest events put the fight in doubt.
Stay tuned.
