In Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 119 main event Lyoto Machida returned to action after a two-year suspension from USADA, against the top ranked Derrick Brunson.
In the first round fight fans saw glimpses of that vintage Machida that was once a dominant champion. In the opening two-minutes it looked like Machida had the answer for Brunson, until a left hook landed from the American. Machida dropped, and Brunson followed him to the mat, landed some brutal punches, and turned the lights completely out.
Unfortunately for the fans, Machida’s return to his hometown was spoiled by Brusnon at UFC Fight Night, Sao Paulo.
Result: Derrick Brunson def. Lyoto Machida via knockout – Round 1
