Former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis put on a bloody war with Dustin Poirier at UFC Fight Night 120 on Saturday night, Nov. 11. Still, things simply did not go the former champion’s way.
Pettis sank in a tight triangle submission attempt on Poirier during the fight, but the submission was halted by the referee so that Pettis’ cuts from earlier in the fight could be checked out. When Pettis was deemed able to continue, the fighters were not placed back in the same position and Pettis lost his submission attempt.
Now fighters and fans are taking to social media to share their thoughts on the controversial moment. Among them, WWE superstar turned mixed martial artist Phil Brooks, better known as CM Punk, took to Twitter to state:
“People will say sour grapes I guess. But I was screaming about that. Triangle seemed more locked than previous attempts.”
