Derrick Lewis was initially set to take on former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum at UFC 216. However, the fighter suffered an injury that forced Lewis to pull out of the fight on a moments notice. As a result, Werdum went on to earn a dominant first round submission victory over replacement opponent Walt Harris and Derrick Lewis began recovering from his injury. Now it would appear that Lewis is set and ready to return to the octagon.
Fabricio Werdum fought once again on Saturday, Nov. 18, at UFC Fight Night 121 in Sydney, Australia. The fighter headlined the card in a match up against Marcin Tybura. The match ended up going the distance, with Werdum earning a decision victory over his opponent. Reacting to the fight, Lewis went to Twitter to state:
“I’ve been cleared by the doctor. I would like the winner of tonight or a fight with anyone that’s ready #ufc”
