UFC superstar Conor McGregor and mixed martial arts referee Marc Goddard have not been on the best of terms as of late. McGregor’s first had a run-in with the ref at UFC Gdansk. “Notorious” was cage side for SBG Ireland teammate Artem Lobov’s match up against Andre Fili.
While McGregor was not a cornerman for the fighter, that didn’t stop “Notorious” from approaching the cage and shouting advice to his teammate. Referee Marc Goddard gave McGregor several warnings concerning the illegal action.
McGregor made headlines once again at Bellator 187. Cage side for teammate Charlie Ward, “Notorious” made a scene after the fighter earned a swift first round TKO victory. McGregor climbed into the Bellator cage, slammed a commissioner in the face and had an altercation with referee Marc Goddard once again.
However, it would appear that the two individuals have an older history. Back in 2012, Conor McGregor earned a submission victory over one Dave Hill during Cage Warriors 47. In the corner of Hill was none other than Marc Goddard himself. It is unclear if McGregor’s win over Hill has totally affected the fighter’s relationship with Goddard, but the two individuals certainly appear to have a history.
