Prior to UFC 217, Joanna Jedrzejczyk was undefeated. The UFC strawweight champion had put 14 victories on her spotless record, with wins over some of the toughest competitors in the sport of mixed martial arts. Jedrzejczyk was well on her way to becoming one of the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s most dominant fighters. However, everything changed at UFC 217.
Rose Namajunas shocked the Madison Square Garden with a dominant first round stoppage over Joanna Jedrzejczyk on the night’s main card, earning the fighter the coveted UFC strawweight title. Directly before the TKO stoppage, Jedrzejczyk appeared to be allegedly tapping to strikes. However, Jedrzejczyk has since claimed that she was not tapping to strikes, but rather trying to regain her balance.
