Former UFC Champion Shane Carwin Requests To Be In Bellator’s Heavyweight Tournament

The mixed martial arts promotion Bellator MMA recently revealed that a Bellator heavyweight tournament grand prix is set to go down next year. The next Bellator heavyweight champion will be decided by the tournament’s victor. The grand prix is set to include Fedor Emelianenko, Frank Mir, Matt Mitrione, Roy Nelson, Ryan Bader, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Muhammad Lawal and Chael Sonnen. That being said, it would appear that a former UFC heavyweight interim champion is now looking to get in on the heavyweight war.

Shane Carwin is a former interim heavyweight champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). The fighter has not competed since 2011, hanging up his gloves with a professional record of 12-2. That being said, it would appear that the former interim champion now wants to enter the new Bellator MMA tournament.

Taking to Facebook, Carwin revealed that he would like to be considered as an alternate for the tournament. Carwin claims to have reached out to the promotion about the endeavor. Ending his statement, the fighter said “I’d love a real title.”
