The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is in New York tonight for the highly anticipated fight card UFC 217. The night of fights is set to include the octagon return of Georges St-Pierre, as the fighter takes on Michael Bisping in one of the night’s three title fights.
Continuing the exciting night of preliminary bouts, heavyweights Walt Harris and Mark Godbeer faced off for division dominance. Harris is looking to get back into the winning column, as he suffered a first round submission loss to Fabricio Werdum at UFC 217 just a month ago.
Harris and Godbeer were initially set to face off at UFC 216, but Harris was called to the night’s main card to take on Werdum after the grappling phenom’s opponent pulled out last minute.
In the first round, Harris opened things up by applying the pressure to his opponent. Taking Godbeer down, Harris managed to get into a dominant position. Godbeer quickly pulled his opponent into his full guard, before Harris could deliver any significant damage to his opponent.
Harris continued to weigh down his opponent from the dominant position, but Godbeer was eventually able to make his way to his feet.
Harris landed an accidental illegal blow below the belt of his opponent. Shortly after the strike, Harris struck his opponent with a headkick. The fight was brought to an abrupt end, after the series of illegal blows. After the doctor called an end to the fight, Harris was disqualified.
