The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) hosted another exciting night of fights over the weekend, as UFC Fight Night 123 went down on Saturday night, Dec. 9. The world’s most famous mixed martial arts promotion offered a fight card filled with stunning octagon performances, but perhaps none shocked the Fresno, Calif. crowd as much as Marlon Moraes’ knockout of the year contender victory over Aljamain Sterling.
Bantamweights Aljamain Sterling and Marlon Moraes threw down inside the Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif. on the main card of UFC Fight Night 123. Sterling had never suffered a knockout loss in his career before the stunning night of fights, but all of that changed come Saturday.
Moraes struck Sterling with a vicious knee to the head as Sterling was shooting for a takedown. The mistimed takedown attempt cost Sterling the fight, as the competitor was knocked out cold from the brutal knee strike. Sterling remained unconscious on the canvas for a concerning amount of time. In the end, the fighter was taken out of the octagon on a stretcher and rushed to the local hospital for “precautionary measures.” That being said, it would appear that Sterling is now doing much better.
Taking to Twitter, Sterling offered his assurance to his fans that he is now doing just fine.
“Hats off to Marlon. Thought I timed the TD perfectly and he was able to land a nasty knee. Sucks to be the nail, but this is the fight game. I’m ok for all those asking.”
