UFC President Dana White confirmed today that the UFC and Floyd Mayweather are in serious negotiations for the boxing star to cross over into MMA. And while we’re sure to get many more UFC fighters stepping up to the plate, Cub Swanson just offered an interesting strikers delight. In fact, he says he’ll stand and trade with boxing’s best inside the UFC’s Octagon.
Swanson joins UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson, as the two top UFC fighters already chomping at the bit to welcome boxing’s biggest star into the UFC.
Last week Floyd was first to drop news of a potential stint in the UFC, “They just called me not too long ago and asked me to come back,” said Mayweather. I can come right back. If I wanted to, I can come right back to the UFC. I can go fight in the Octagon. I can do a three- or four-fight deal in the Octagon and make a billion dollars. Remember, I’m Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather.”
Then yesterday Joe Rogan revealed what he knew, stating, “Dana told me that Floyd wants to make a deal in the UFC, like legitimately.”
Dana White just told ESPN that there’s truth to these statements. The UFC President stated, “We’re talking to Floyd about doing a UFC deal. It’s real. He was talking about [boxing] Conor McGregor. Was that real? Have you heard Floyd talk about many things that aren’t real? He usually tips his hand when he’s in the media, and then that s— ends up happening.
White continued to confirm that it’s a real possibility.
“We’re interested in doing something with Floyd. Everything is a realistic possibility. Mayweather vs. McGregor f—ing happened. Anything is possible.”
And now enter Cub Swanson, who offers an acceptable adaption to MMA for the boxing based fighter.
