A highly entertaining night of fights are going down inside the T-Mobile arena in Las Vegas, Nev. on Saturday, Dec. 30, as the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is hosting UFC 219 for the Las Vegas crowd. The highly anticipated event is currently showing off a series of exciting match ups in the main card, as lightweights Dan Hooker and Marc Diakiese are throwing down for an octagon war. The fight opened at a slow and methodical pace, as each competitor took their time measuring out their opponent’s reach and rhythm. Diakiese threw out a spinning back kick, but Hooker managed to evade the strike and avoid any damage.
With two and half minutes gone from the opening round, the two fighters continued to take their time and test things out on the feet. With just over one minute left in the match up, Diakiese began to open up with a higher frequency of strikes. The fighter tried to land a series of kicks on Hooker, but failed to hit his mark.
The crowd began to boo as the round entered its final moments, with neither fighter having suffered any significant damage from the opening five minutes.
The second round opened at a swifter pace, with Diakiese kicking things off with a powerful combination that put Hooker on his back foot.
The fighter continued to shoot out a series of strikes, but Hooker seemed to be just out of range with every blow.
The two fighters briefly entered the clinch, but Hooker escaped the position before either competitor suffered any damage. Then, the fighter managed to take Diakiese to the canvas for a successful takedown. From there, Hooker got the back of his opponent and began working for a hopeful rear-naked choke.
However, Diakiese was able to control his opponent’s hands and prevent the submission attempt. Diakiese eventually reversed the position and made his way into the fighter’s full guard, finishing the round in a dominant position.
Diakiese kicked off the final round with a vengeance, but quickly found himself on the canvas. Hooker wrapped his arms around his opponent and finished his opponent with a guillotine choke for the win.
