UFC heavyweight Derrick Lewis has been on the sidelines as of late. The fighter was originally set to face off against former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum at UFC 216. However, Lewis pulled out of the event on just a few hours notice due to a back injury. The fighter is now healing up and getting back to training. The fighter recently took a moment to speak with MMA journalist Helen Yee about what he has been up to. During the interview, Lewis decided to give hi thoughts on rising MMA star Francis Ngannou.
Francis Ngannou shocked the MMA world when he earned a stunning first round knockout victory over top heavyweight contender and former K-1 Grand Prix champion Alistair Overeem at UFC 218. Since the epic knockout finish, Ngannou has been awarded a shot at the heavyweight title as the fighter is now set to face off against reigning champion Stipe Miocic at UFC 220. The event goes down Jan. 20, 2018 inside the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts and will be available live on pay-per-view.
Speaking to Helen Yee, Derrick Lewis offered his opinion on Ngannou’s big achievement of knocking out the former K-1 Grand Prix champion. When asked about Ngannou, Lewis jokingly responded “Who’s that?”
