UFC heavyweight Franci Ngannou is on a tear through the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Now, the rising MMA star has issued a message to the reigning champion of the division.
UFC 218 went down on Saturday, Dec. 2, inside the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan. In the night’s exciting main event, UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway went toe-to-toe with former champion Jose Aldo in an exciting match up. Aldo was coming off of a tough TKO loss to the reigning champion from UFC 212. However, things did not go Aldo’s way in Detroit either. Max Holloway earned a second consecutive third round TKO finish over the former champion in the night’s big headliner. Of course, before the two featherweights stepped into the octagon, a heavyweight war in the night’s co-headliner shocked the Detroit arena.
In the night’s co-main event, No. 1 heavyweight contender Alistair Overeem threw down with rising MMA star Francis Ngannou. Overeem was on a two fight winning streak, having most recently earned a close decision victory over former champion Fabricio Werdum. That being said, Ngannou made short work of the former K-1 Grand Prix champion in Detroit.
Ngannou earned a stunning first round knockout victory over Overeem in the night’s co-main event. UFC President Dana White would later confirm that the knockout artist’s impressive performance earned the fighter a title shot against reigning champion Stipe Miocic.
Shortly after the news, Miocic took to social media to leave a terse message. Simply put, the champion stated “And still…” Alongside the message, Miocic added a photo of himself laughing beside his belt.
