The world’s most famous mixed martial arts promotion was inside the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan on Saturday, Dec. 2, for UFC 218. The fight card featured an exciting night of octagon performances, including an all-out war between MMA warriors Eddie Alvarez and Justin Gaethje. While Gaethje entered the octagon as a crowd favorite, the fight simply did not go the competitor’s way.
Prior to UFC 218, Justin Gaethje was undefeated in his mixed martial arts career. With a single fight inside the UFC on his record, Gaethje made a successful octagon debut by taking out Michael Johnson with a second round TKO. The fighter would go on to coach opposite Eddie Alvarez on the latest season of The Ultimate Fighter. In a culmination of their season long competition, the two coaches threw down at UFC 218 for the Detroit crowd.
The two fighters put on a war, but Alvarez ultimately came out on top with a third round knockout victory over his formerly undefeated opponent. Now Gaethje has come forward with a statement following his recent defeat. Taking to Facebook, the fighter said:
“Started wrestling at 4. I’ve lost before and I will lose again. It is the nature of the beast. I love what I do and the the people I do it with. Thank you for all the love and support. On to the next one.”
