Former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez was badly beaten up in his UFC 218 win over the previously unbeaten Justin Gaethje. Just take a look at our cover photo to see the massive hematoma on his cheek as evidence. Now, thanks to a new video, we have some screen shots of Eddie, just four days after his battle, and his face is healing up pretty nicely.
Justin Gaethje burst onto the UFC scene coming out of his role as WSOF champion. He would make his debut against the highly-respected Michael Johnson, earning a second round stoppage win.
Next up for the rising star would be a coaching stint on TUF, opposite Eddie Alvarez.
Gaethje was hyped as the next big thing in the UFC lightweight division, and he almost was, until he came across Eddie Alvarez, who knocked him out cold in round 2, of their UFC 218 main card fight.
The bout itself was an absolute war, and either man could have gone down. However, it was Gaethje who would ultimately get the lights turned off, and lose his unbeaten record in the process.
Eddie Alvarez though, had seen better days. Sporting one of the biggest cheek hematomas we have ever seen, he’s been the butt of Popeye jokes across the web ever since Saturday night.
Now, thanks to a new video, we’ve grabbed some screen shots of what Eddie looks like just four days removed from fight night.
