Bellator MMA is gearing up for a big event set for Jan. 20, 2018. Bellator 192 will be going down inside The Forum in Inglewood, Calif. In the night’s highly anticipated main event, former UFC title challenger Rory MacDonald will be facing off against reigning Bellator welterweight champion Douglas Lima for his belt. That being said, Bellator 192 is not the only big fight going down that night.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has decided to pin UFC 220 for the same night as Bellator 192. The world’s largest mixed martial arts promotion will likely draw some fight fans away from the Bellator card in favor of their upcoming match ups. Now, the UFC is reportedly targeting an exciting title fight for the big event.
UFC heavyweight Francis Ngannou shocked the world when he knocked Alistair Overeem out cold at UFC 218. The rising MMA star is still undefeated inside the octagon, with six victories under the UFC banner. UFC President Dana White has since come forward to reveal that Ngannou’s knockout victory over the former K-1 Grand Prix champion has officially earned the fighter a shot at the heavyweight title. Though, until now, a target date and venue for the fight against UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic had not been revealed.
ESPN’s Brett Okamoto has now come forward to report that, while it is not yet confirmed, the UFC is getting closer to Ngannou and Miocic fighting on Jan. 20, 2018 on the UFC 220 fight card.
Stipe Miocic is now on a five fight winning streak as a professional mixed martial artist. Most recently, the UFC heavyweight champion avenged his former loss to Junior dos Santos with a first round TKO victory over the fighter at UFC 211. The last four fights of Miocic’s have ended in a first round stoppage victory for the fighter.
