Fight fans flooded into the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan on Saturday night, Dec. 2, for the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s most recent event. The world’s most famous mixed martial arts promotion headed to Detroit to host UFC 218 for fans tuning in from around the world for the highly anticipate pay-per-view. With the incredibly entertaining night of fights now in the books, it’s time to take a look at the stunning co-main event knockout delivered by Francis Ngannou that had the Detroit crowd on their feet.
In the night’s main event, UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway made a defense of his title. The fighter unified his belt in an epic match up against Jose Aldo back at UFC 212. While Aldo has gone on to become one of the UFC’s most dominant featherweight fighters, Holloway still managed to earn a TKO victory over the fighter at the event.
In a highly anticipated rematch, Holloway and “Scarface” went toe-to-toe once again in the main event of UFC 218. This time around, Holloway earned another stunning third round TKO victory over Aldo in defense of his featherweight title. That being said, there is another octagon performance that has fight fans talking.
UFC heavyweight Alistair Overeem has made a climb to the No. 1 contender spot after earning a series of impressive performances inside the octagon. The former K-1 Grand Prix champion earned an impressive knockout victory over Mark “The Super Samoan” Hunt, before getting a close majority decision victory over former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum at UFC 213. On a two fight winning streak, Overeem was granted a co-headlining slot at Saturday’s UFC 218.
The fighter’s opponent has yet to be defeated inside the octagon. On a nine fight winning streak in his mixed martial arts career, Francis Ngannou is a rising star in the UFC’s heavyweight division. At UFC 218, the fighter put on a dominant performance over Alistair Overeem with a stunning knockout victory over the fighter.
