Russia’s Khabib Nurmagomedov has recently emerged as the front runner for a UFC world title shot. However, the undisputed champion is Conor McGregor, and there’s been little indication that he’s returning to action anytime soon.
Instead what we have is an interim champion in Tony Ferguson, who is willing and ready to fight anyone, at anytime. However, according to Khabib’s manager, that fight is not an option under the current terms of the UFC world title.
Many want Khabib to skip over Ferguson’s interim title shot, and face Conor McGregor for the undisputed belt.
This is a big slight on Tony, and speaks volumes for the worth of his interim world title.
Khabib’s manager has just made a statement on the matter, stating his fighter will in no way fight for a worthless interim belt, and it’s the undisputed world title or nothing.
Here’s his statement:
“Khabib’s next fight, we’re not fighting for no damn interim belt. We want the real belt, or we don’t want nothing. We appreciate everything the UFC has done for us, but it’s time for a real belt. Nobody is interested in fighting for a fake belt. Tony Ferguson has a fake belt. Nobody wants this.”
