After the recent hype for Francis Ngannou, UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic was not willing to allow UFC President Dana White to wrap him in the UFC belt.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) went down to Boston, Massachusetts on Saturday, Jan. 20, for UFC 220. This time around, the world’s most famous mixed martial arts promotion headlined the latest highly anticipated fight card with a heavyweight war for the title.
UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic successfully defended his title from rising knockout artist Francis Ngannou in the main event of Boston’s UFC 220. The title holder put on a dominant performance over Ngannou, ultimately earning a unanimous decision victory.
Leading up to the fight, the UFC’s promotion of the event came under some criticism from fight fans. The advertisement for UFC 220 largely seemed to be in the favor of Francis Ngannou. Stipe Miocic would go on to vocalize his thoughts on the lack of support within the promotion for the event.
After beating Ngannou, Miocic made another statement, though this time it was not with his words. When Dana White approached to place the belt on Miocic, the UFC heavyweight champion instead took the belt from White and gave it to his cornerman to place around his waist.
