Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has come forward with a statement concerning his recent CSAC hearing.
Jon Jones’s career in the sport of mixed martial arts has had its ups and downs. Once a mixed martial arts phenom on his way to UFC Hall of Fame candidacy, the fighter’s career has since been shrouded in controversy.
Jones has suffered multiple failed drug tests, has been stripped of his UFC title on multiple occasions and has had multiple run ins with the law. Most recently, the former champion failed a drug test for UFC 214.
The case for Jones’ recent drug test failure, which saw the champion stripped of his title for the third time, was held today by the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC). Jones made his plea, but was ultimately found guilty of intentional usage of a banned substance.
Jones has been fined the maximum total of $200,000 and has had his license to fight revoked. The fighter will not be eligible to apply for a license again until May 2019. USADA has also yet to determine their punitive measures for Jones’ case, which could entail up to a six year suspension.
Taking to Twitter, Jon Jones has now offered a statement following the recent hearing.
“I want to thank csac for taking the time and hearing my case, and executive officer Andy Foster for saying he believes me.”
