Woodley Confirms UFC Offered Him An Opponent For UFC 223, And He Turned It Down

UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is coming back from a recent shoulder surgery, allowing the fighter some time to pick his next opponent. In a recent interview, the dominant title holder revealed that he was offered a match up for UFC 223. However, the fighter has since declined the offer.

UFC 223 is set to see two intense title fights. Interim UFC lightweight champion Tony Ferguson will be battling it out with top contender Khabib Nurmagomedov in a highly anticipated war for the belt.

However, UFC strawweight champion Rose Namajunas will also be going to war for the Brooklyn crowd as she takes on former title holder Joanna Jędrzejczyk in an immediate rematch. Speaking on the latest edition of The MMA Hour, Tyron Woodley revealed that he was also offered a fight for the stacked event.

“I got an insulting offer for someone April 7.” Woodley said. “I said ‘who do you want me to fight? I don’t even know that persons name. Call me back when you got someone for real.'”
