Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate has decided to weigh-in on the recent controversy concerning the corner of Raquel Pennington. To the recent title holder, Pennington’s corner was acting in the right.
Raquel Pennington faced off against UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes in the main event of UFC 224 over the weekend. After receiving a pummeling from her opponent, Pennington told her corner in between rounds four and five that she was “done.”
The fighter’s corner convinced her to continue competing, rather that throwing in the towel. The moment has since become one of controversy. Pennington went on to suffer a fifth round TKO loss.
Speaking in a recent podcast, as heard in the video above, Miesha Tate revealed that she believes the fighter’s corner did the right thing.
“I would have done the same thing, if I was in her corner’s shoes. I think that it is important that a fighter loses with dignity and I think that Raquel lost with dignity.”
