The time has finally come. The main event for UFC on FOX 30 is now going down inside the octagon. With that in mind, it’s time to take a look at the UFC results from the exciting match up.
The highly anticipated fight card for UFC on FOX 30 is going down this Saturday, July 28, in Calgary, Canada. Headlining the night’s event, Dustin Poirier and former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez are throwing down in an exciting rematch.
Poirier and Alvarez first faced off back at UFC 211. The fight reached a controversial end when Alvarez landed illegal knees to the head of his opponent.
The fight was called to a stop and was ultimately ruled a no contest. Now the two mixed martial artists are meeting inside the octagon once again to settle the score. Check out the UFC results from the stunning match up down below.
The fight kicked off at a blistering pace, as Poirier and Alvarez almost immediately began trading shots in the center of the octagon. Poirier began showboating after seemingly finding his range. However, Alvarez was landing some damaging power shots on his opponent.
Both fighters finished the round strong with an intense brawl in the center of the octagon. This will be a tough round for the judges.
Poirier sank in a guillotine choke early in the second round, following a failed takedown attempt from Alvarez. However, the former champion was able to defend the submission attempt and get back to his feet.
Alvarez then managed to get his opponent to the canvas and lock in a neck crank submission attempt. However, Poirier managed to defend the attack. Alvarez then landed a an illegal downward elbow to his opponent, momentarily bringing a stop to the contest.
When the fight returned, Poirier let go a flurry of strikes that ultimately brought an end to the fight.
